G-Wood Paddling With the Biscuit

Well after my Westwater trip, I was pretty fired up to get out there and paddle so me and sage went for a good day on Lower Death/Barrel Springs/Shoshone. It was fun even though the water is very low this time of year. I just got my biscuit 55, and have been paddling it a little, its a great boat. Here are some photos from recent kayaking endeavors.

I took the Biscuit to the g wood wave at about 1700cfs on a freezing cold day. Spins, roundhouses and loops were possible in the small feature, the large one is a ledge hole right now.

Westwater and The Liquid Logic Biscuit

Westwater trips are always a good time. It marks the beginning of spring for me. Even though it is snowing as I am writing this. Me and Sage rolled out of c-dale friday evening where we met the rest of our crew at the put in. We had a great group. We slept(it was really cold), and then woke to a beautiful sunny day. We ran shuttle, and were anxious to get on the water in order to get some surfin in at LIL D. We rolled into our camp at lower LIL D around 2, at a dank lunch thanks to Ted, and then surfed till around 5. The wave was at a decent level, blunts were possible, which was great for an early season wave. We had six new LL Biscuits to test out, and test them we did. The production version is quite different than the prototype that I had been paddling. There is less bow rocker, and less stern rocker, the spin disc is removed. The stern is a bit longer, and it has a little bit more volume. This made the boat much faster which I was very happy with. It surfs great, easy to control, big bounces, spins easily. I was super stoked with how it performed.

Winter Time Gore Canyon

Despite my hopes that it is almost spring, I have concluded that it is still winter. Jones and I left c-dale and rallied to Pumphouse where we met Eric from boulder. We set shuttle and Drove to the put-in. There we met Sam from PA. Everyone was stoked for a little winter time kayaking. Although the temperature was fairly warm, there was a slight breeze which made everything much colder. We warmed up on the flat water, then entered the canyon for some good ol' low level gore. The Canyon was beautiful, and the rapids still fun even though the level was low.

At the put in.
About to paddle some flat water, sweet!

Entering the deep dark depths of Gore Canyon. Be afraid, be very afraid.

Eric chillin at gore rapid.

Jones Cochran gettin busy in Gore rapid. The meat line is the only one that goes at this level. There were no Ice bridges the whole run, so we were stoked on that.

Gore Canyon, a pretty beautiful place.

Sam In Gore rapid. He got a lil sideways action, but pulled it off just fine.
Jones at tunnel Falls, Nice boof.
Me boofing Tunnel in my new Grande, gotta love how easily that boat boofs.

Another Put in shot.

The run was fun, Jones and I ran everyting, and there were no death ice bridges. Sam and Eric killed it. Snow is cold. My favorite rapid is definitely Kirshbaum's it is pretty long, with some fun boofs.

Happy Winter paddling. -Fred

Spring Is Almost Here!! And what is True love??

Well I figured I would throw up a couple photos from recent winter paddling in order to point out the fact that well..... It may still be winter as Leif would say... but spring is ALMOST here! (This may just be an effort to keep myself in denial that in fact it is still winter, but it helps me sleep at night) True love can only really be defined by this video.

Or these photos.

If words could describe how much I love the Jefe Grande, I would write them right here.

"Sometimes you think you have true love and then you catch the early flight home from san diego, and you find a couple strangers ready to double team your girlfriend"-Old School

Well my friend, A Jefe will never be this cruel, it will boof when you want to boof, plug when you want to plug, eddy out when you want to eddy out.... you get the idea.

True love has been found.

Oh right, actuall kayaking photos!

mmmm.... drysuits

Another run on Shoshone to keep my ind off the fact that yes, it is still winter.
I love the Biscuit, cant wait to take it on a big wave, I bet it will go huge!
Splat!

As you can tell the snow is melting, however yes it is in fact STILL WINTER.

A run down Barrel Springs with Leif and Sage.
The put in.
Warming up.
Leif mid-barrel, a bit different than at 11,000 cfs.

Check out Leif's blog at http://leifandnatalie.blogspot.com

So let us all hope that I am not in denial, and spring is in fact coming soon.

New Years Shoshone

Well I returned from Chile greeted with a cold winter and plenty of snow to ski on. After a late night on new years, we all rallied in the morning to do the annual New Years Shoshone run. It was a balmy 20-some degrees.(last year it was a full 4 degrees) We paddled down making sure not to try anything to risky in fear of flipping. Another cold shoshone run-success.
Sliding down the ramp.
Jake and I entering the balmy, 70 degree water.
The crew about to take off.
Yes plenty of snow on another cloudy/cold day in the canyon.
Yes very nice.
The crew at the takeout, a good day was had by all.
Well its almost kayak season! hope to see everyone out on the river-Fred
